Any student, regardless of income, who is interested in federal aid, including grants, loans, and work-study. 

The BHSU Student Financial Aid Office uses data from the FAFSA® form to determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive. Work-study and loans require you to accept them and will not be paid to your account without that active confirmation. 

You will want to complete the FAFSA® form as soon as it opens. Some funds are limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The U.S. Department of Education announced that the 2025-2026 FAFSA will be made available to all applicants on or before December 1, 2024. This form is for the Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 semesters/terms. 

The 2024-25 FAFSA opened late-December 2023. This form is for the Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025 semesters/terms. For information regarding the changes to the 2024-25 form, please visit our BHSU page or the Federal Student Aid website.

You will complete the online FAFSA at Federal Student Aid. 

You will need some personal documents and financial information to complete the form. We recommend keeping a copy of your financial information in case you need it later. These include:

• Student's verified account username and password 
  • To set up a FSA ID, visit Federal Student Aid's Create an Account. 
• Contributor's (parent or spouse) verified account username and password
• Parent or spouse contributor name, date of birth, Social Security number, and email address
• Income and asset information (if required)
  • For the 2025-2026 FAFSA, you will use calendar year 2023 tax information.
  • For the 2024-2025 FAFSA, you will use calendar year 2022 tax information.

• Be sure to apply for admission to BHSU if you haven't done so already. 
• Watch for the email address listed on the FAFSA® form for your Submission Summary from Federal Student Aid.
• Keep an eye on your Yellow Jackets email for your aid offer, updates, and required items. This is our main way of communicating important information regarding your financial aid to you.
